We Are Now An Official ‘Active Practice’!

We are very happy to announce that we have been officially certified as an ‘Active Practice’ by the Royal College of GPs
Did you know that physical inactivity is linked to 1 in 6 deaths in the UK as it is a known risk factor for conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancers.
Evidence shows that brief advice from a GP can increase physical activity levels by up to 49%
Being an Active Practice means we have proven our commitment to taking practical steps to:
1. Encourage physical activity amongst our patients
2. Support staff to be more active at work and at home
3. Create a healthier practice environment
The charter focuses on five main areas:
1. Creating a practice environment that supports physical activity e.g. posters, leaflets and conversations about the benefits of being active
2. Making physical activity a routine part of conversations with patients
3. Supporting staff to be more active. Encouraging walking meetings, cycle-to-work schemes, or activity challenges
4. Partnering with local physical activity providers and referring patients to community walks, gyms, or exercise programs
5. Reducing sedentary behaviour by promoting simple changes like standing desks, regular breaks from sitting and being active during break times
Whether it’s walking the dog, trying a new sport or getting out in the garden, everything counts!
