Tirzepatide (AKA Mounjaro) Weight Loss Injections

You may have seen recent media coverage about Tirzepatide (also known as Mounjaro), a new medication for weight loss in people with obesity. Although it has now been approved for NHS use in England, it is not currently available through GP surgeries.

Locally, our NHS commissioner, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight (ICB) are working to set up the necessary services to support this treatment. These are not expected to go live until Autumn 2025, and access will be limited to a small number of people who meet specific national criteria.

Please be aware that we are unable to prescribe Mounjaro, or any other injections for weight loss at the current time and we are not holding a waiting list.

The current Tirzepatide eligibility criteria set out nationally is:

* A BMI of 40 or more

plus FOUR or more of the following diagnosed conditions:

* Type 2 diabetes

* High blood pressure (hypertension)

* Cardiovascular disease

* Obstructive sleep apnoea

* Dyslipidaemia

We will provide an update as soon as the service becomes available.
